Group tasks at SSB — Group Obstacle Race, Progressive Group Task, Half Group Task, Command Task and the rest — look like physical problem-solving exercises with planks, ropes and structures. Candidates who train only for the physical difficulty routinely underperform, because the actual assessment has very little to do with whether the group finishes the task.
The GTO records who suggested a workable idea, who helped implement someone else's idea without needing credit, who adjusted their plan when it clearly wasn't working, and who kept contributing after an early idea was rejected. Groups that finish quickly with one person doing all the thinking usually score worse, collectively, than groups that finish slower with distributed contribution.
